AMERICAN NUBIAN SHOWCASE
2018 ADGA National Show
In an effort to draw attention and highlight the superior animals that comprise the American subset of the Nubian breed, the American Nubian Promotion Team has worked to promote the American Nubian and help correct the myths so often present in the Nubian goat world. We feel that the American Nubian should not be seen as inferior to its purebred counterpart because of its pedigree, but instead needs to be held in equal esteem and value. So often the excuse of not having any American Nubians in a herd is met with, I haven’t seen any nice ones, or they haven’t been proven enough. Through our efforts this year, and in the years to come, we are looking to change that and the other bias that exists with regard to the American Nubian.
Since so much of the devaluation of the American Nubian comes from miseducation, the American Nubian Promotion Team has been working diligently to promote a positive conversation that helps showcase the merits of the American Nubian instead of the “imperfection” of its pedigree. We have been working to rectify this and would love your involvement. As we began, an article has been published in the United Caprine News to debunk the top 10 myths and misconceptions about American Nubians. We have created a Facebook Group-American Nubian Breeders, to help connect all of us fellow American Nubian Breeders who are proud to have Americans in the barn and would like to highlight them. Our debut was at the 2016 ADGA Nationals where we used the 4th of July and showcase that we are “Proud to be American Nubian Breeders.” After that was such a great success, and we have seen Americans growing in popularity and value across the country, we are continuing this same sort of promotion.

We will have a table at the vendor area where we will have pictures and information about some of our American Nubian Shining Stars. If you have a doe you feel would be worthy of such recognition, feel free to recommend her to us by sending an e-mail. We may even have another American Nubian join the ranks of National Grand Champion. (Fingers crossed) T-shirts will be made to be worn together to facilitate conversation and create some positive recognition for these fine animals that fill our barns. Lastly, we will have a strong social media tie-in that will aid in this promotional event and positive conversation.
